I am 'Jacob' Dongil Shin...

Professor of Applied Linguistics at Chung-Ang University in Seoul, Korea. My research interests include test development & validation, language (testing) policy, McCommunication (verbal hygiene), translanguaging, linguistic human rights, language ecology, and language identities in Applied/Educational Linguistics. I am interested in how Korean learners of English improve in oral proficiency, storytelling competence. My current writing is about the interfaces between language testing and other academic disciplines, and the social dimensions of English language testing in Korea.

I had studied at Chung-Ang University (BA, 1990), Iowa State University (MA, 1995), and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Ph.D., 1999). I was also trained as a language testing professional, interviewer, and rater in ISLPR (International Scale of Language Proficiency Rating, Grinffith University, Australia), ELT and Assessment International Seminar (British Council, UK), Cambridge ESOL YLE (Young Learners of English) Examiner, ACTFL-OPI (American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages), and more institutes: It totals more than 200 hours of professional training. I have directed many projects of language test development, have served on the Editorial Committee, or as Secretary General of academic Associations. I was also the chairperson of ACTFL Korea Committee.
